SILAS ALBRIGHT
Multimedia journalist specializing in sportswriting
ABOUT
Silas Albright is an award-winning multimedia journalist with a passion for sportswriting. Most of his experience is in sportswriting and editing, but he's also covered other topics, produced photojournalism, video stories, audio pieces and infographics.
After getting his first taste of sportswriting for a local outlet while in high school, Albright joined App State's student-run newspaper, The Appalachian, his first week of college in 2017 as a sports reporter. Albright elevated to Associate Sports Editor in 2018, and then led the desk as Editor from 2019-2021.

In 2021, Albright won first place from the Associated Collegiate Press in the social justice reporting category for this story on App State's football team leading a peaceful march against racial injustice. As Editor, Albright also led the sports desk to become one of five national finalists for a College Media Association Pinnacle Award for Best Sports Section during the 2019-20 school year.
Albright began his post-collegiate career in August of 2021 as Sports Editor for The Mountaineer, Haywood County, NC's newspaper of record. His duties included managing the daily web edition of the sports section and two physical print editions a week, as well as the annual fall sports special section. In this role Albright also organized and led a small staff of freelancers and photographers.

Looking for a change of pace, Albright moved on from The Mountaineer in March of 2022. In July he ventured west to serve as an AmeriCorps conservation crew member in southwestern Utah for three months, working 10-hour days and camping for eight days in a row before getting six days off. Albright completed his three-month term and returned to his Eastern North Carolina roots in time for Thanksgiving.

In January 2023, Albright got back into the sportswriting game, accepting the Sports Editor position at The Courier-Times and moving to Roxboro, NC. In this role, Albright enjoyed covering the local sports scene in Person County both with his camera and notepad for the weekly newspaper.

In June 2024, Albright made the challenging decision to leave the full-time journalism business. He plans to take some time to figure out his next career step while exploring freelance opportunities.
